Vitelia Feeds releases new Magi-Maxx feed to maximise pig growth
Vitelia Feeds, an innovative Dutch feed miller that explores processing technologies to make feeds for improved animal performance, has released its new Magi-Maxx feed which maximises pig growth.
With this development, Vitelia explores the limits of what is possible with the latest technology and insights into feed digestibility and feed conversion.
In addition, the company is constrained by two factors. The feed had to be placed on the market at a competitive price and it must be applicable in current feeding systems.
Pigs fed with Magi-Maxx processed feeds show improved growth rate, reduced feed conversion and emissions of phosphate.
Studies at Vitelia''s own test farms and experimental farms of Schothorst Feed Research in Lelystad, The Netherlands, showed that piglets which are fed with Magi-Maxx grew 400 grammes per day and fatteners can achieve a gain of more than one kilogramme per day.
FCR of fatteners improved from 2.43 to 2.22 for gilts and 2.69 to 2.48 for boars. Release of phosphate was reduced by 0.2 kg per fattening pig delivered.
These performances are the result of choosing raw materials carefully and innovative techniques for treatment and grinding.
The majority of feed companies work with relatively traditional production techniques such as mixing, grinding, and pressing. On the other hand, in recent years, Vitelia has focused on a strategy whereby they would help its customers to improve their business.
Therefore, the company has invested heavily in an efficient organisation and improved technology to produce more profitable feed. Since 2006, it pioneered the Magi-Con feeding system which includes expander technology.
Recently, it also added the Magi-Mill concept (grinding) to the production line and together with the already installed Pegasus vacuum coater from Dinnissen, they allow the company to attain the next generation of milling, mixing, and pressing.
The vacuum coater within the Magi-Maxx concept is used in two ways to make pigs grow explosively. Firstly, essential nutrients such as enzymes, vitamins, probiotics, flavours, and minerals are added in the right dosage. Thus, this keeps the effectiveness of the products intact after the heating process. Secondly, with the assistance of the vacuum coater, up to 10% extra fat or oil can be added to feed grains without adversely affecting the quality of grains. On the other hand, a normal pelleting system can only use a maximum amount of 4% fat. Otherwise, pellet quality will be compromised.
The Magi-mill grinding system ensures healthy stimulation of the stomach and intestines. The innovative installation which has not been installed at any other feed company makes it possible to grind every raw material to its most favourable structure.
This specific grinding is used to stimulate the healthy production of gastric juices which are critical in killing pathogens and thus, contributes to the vitality of the pigs.
An optimal coarseness and shape of particles are also important for healthy functioning of the intestines. This will stimulate feed intake and improve the consistency of droppings.
